How to Market Your Website

There are several ways to submit your website to search engines but the easiest way is to do it for free.

The 2 biggest search engines out there are Google and Yahoo.  You can start off by submitting your website to them.

Other notable search engines:
MSN – http://www.msn.com
DMOZ (submission can be a little confusion) – http://www.dmoz.org

Multiple search engine submissions (free third-party tools)

Addme – http://www.addme.com

You can also Google “add url” and find other websites and search engines to submit it. It can get redundant and repetitive but what I do is copy what you need in an application like MS Word or Notepad and you can copy and paste the information as you go along.

What is Google Webmaster Tools?

Google Webmaster Tools is another free tool provided online which can help improve your website’s visibility in Google’s search results.  It can also help you with Google’s view on your site, help with keywords and traffic sources to diagnosing any problems your website may have.

Google Analytics is a free tool that can help you improve your website by helping you with the right keywords, tracking and analyzing visitor traffic to helping you better market your website.

Before we can get to marketing your website, first you will need a website.  If you already have one you can skip this step.

There are 2 types of websites, personal and business.  If you choose a personal website, you probably won’t need to learn how to market it unless it’s something like a blog that you do want visitors to come and read.

Wikipedia defines Personal web pages are World Wide Web pages created by an individual to contain content of a personal nature. The content can be about that person or about something he or she is interested in. Personal web pages can be the entire content of a domain name belonging to the person (which would then be a personal website), or can be a page or pages that are part of a larger domain on which other pages are located.

A Business website revolves more around making money whether it generates sales through selling products or advertising.  Compared with personal web pages, it is essential to generate large amounts of traffic from visitors that maybe interested in the products/services the website offers or other types of interest.

It’s probably best to sit down and brainstorm things such a plan and goals for the website you are creating.
